MIFF
yeah I keep telling myself that I will start a blog reviewing videogames, TV and movies that I see but I haven't yet. Maybe when I become nocturnal (starting my new work hours soon) I will. MIFF has been cool, though I have only been to see 2 films and I only have one free ticket from volunteering left. I'm also starting a 2-11pm work shift tomorrow so that pretty much ruins any plans I may have had to see films on weekdays. Still, there's Know Your Mushrooms this weekend and a host of other potentially cool shizzle before MIFF ends on Sunday. The first movie I saw was "Historias Extraordinarias," a four-hour Argentinian movie with three or more) separate, winding plots. It was constantly narrated. Constantly. This didn't bother me as much as I thought it would at first. I was talking with one of the volunteer organizers about it today and he said that he liked it a lot because the narration provided a second lens through which to see the movie, as if he thought that the narrator was an unreliable witness to the events. I am not sure I agree. I think the narrator did nothing but describe exactly what was happening in each and every scene and that the movie would not have been particularly intelligable without it. It wasn't the clumsiest and I got used to it wuicklu, but I couldn't help but feel like there was something artless about not being able to work the exposition into the movie the way other films do. I liked pretty much everything else about the movie, though. Argentina is pretty cool to look at, the style was great, the music was awesome, and the stories were all intriguing in their own way. It wound up with a kind of postmodern non-ending which bugged me a little, but all in all I would say it was four hours well spent. Tonight I went to go see "500 Days of Summer," which, if I am not wrong, is the new fox searchlight movie. It is billed as "not a love story" and "not a romantic comedy" but it is both of these things, just a little more bearable maybe for guys because of the heavy focus on laughs and the way it ends. It was really, really funny as well as a satisfying depiction of the often confusing, ambiguous modern "relationship." I guess I could also identify with the protagonist because I myself used to believe in finding "the one" before realizing, perhaps too late, that it is more important to cultivate one's self rather than depending on someone else to complete you. The end gave me the feeling that I should be doing something better with my life than working in my office. Of course it's always easier to quit and find one's dream job in a movie than it is in real life. C'est la guerre. |

LOST
Is "Lost" really as great as everyone thinks? Is it REALLY like Twin Peaks?? I tried to watch it once and couldn't get into it. Should I try again? |

my boyfriend and i were watching twin peaks recently (because he'd never seen it before) when the following exchange took place. it was the episode where dale has his first dream about mike and BOB. ME: isn't he the scariest thing you ever saw? (meaning BOB) HIM: only because he lives outside your window. :/ UNCOOL. |

where's my burbon?
Soon I will be discontinuing my posting activity on LJ..my first step in becoming 'social network' free by the end of the year. I will still be maintaining the Twin Peaks Community however, with an eye of passing it off to grrlskout eventually. I have full confidence in her, as I know many of you do as well. |

Good Choice! Thought this was cute - my 10 month old loves to pull all the DVD's off the rack, and check out his first choice! That's a man with excellent taste! ;) |
